iPhone Pro coming in September: Big Updates on the new iPhones

Apple has been criticised over the last two years for the names of the iPhone lineup. It all started back in 2017 where they used the latin number X instead of 10 and they also skipped the iPhone 9. This situation got even worse with the iPhone XR, a name that made absolutely no sense.

Even though we were expecting Apple to continue naming the iPhone with the same pattern, it seems that Apple will probably not release the iPhone 11 in 2019.

Apple is likely to finally change the iPhone names int the more simple iPhone and iPhone Pro. The famous and highly accurate leaker CoinX twitted that, Apple may use the name Pro in this year’s iPhone lineup. Based on the several information leaked online that include the Apple Pencil support, bilateral wireless charging and triple-lens camera on the OLED iPhones, the following naming schemes make more sense than ever before:

  • iPhone, available at 6.1 inches with LCD display and dual lens camera

  • iPhone Pro, available at 5.8 and 6.5 inches with OLED display, triple lens camera, bilateral wireless charging and Apple Pencil support

UPDATE: Seems like there is chance Apple names the phone iPhone 11 and 11 Pro. We have to wait a bit longer to see the actual names.

Should Apple decides to follow this pattern, it would be interesting to tell if the the two OLED models will be call iPhone Pro and iPhone Pro Max or just 5.8 and 6.5 inch iPhone Pro depending on the display size. Hence, exactly the same pattern as the one given in several Apple products including the iPad Pro lineup.

There are rumours that Apple may also release a Product RED iPhone, that will look like close to this:

Information about the 2019 iPhone colours are a bit vague and we still do not know which colours may be available. Gold was the flagship color of the XS campaign and the most discussed iPhone finish in 2019 among the Apple fan community.

We believe that a Gold iPhone Pro with a triple camera would look awesome:

The front of the 2019 iPhones is expected to be identical to last year’s model, with the controversial notch that hides the FaceID array of sensors having the same size as in 2018 and 2017.

The signature feature and design change of the new models will undoubtedly be the new camera systems that will include an additional ultra wide lens and in the case of the Pro variant a third telephoto lens.

See below some of the designs that we made based on the leaks by the famous and accurate leaker Steve H.McFly (aka OnLeaks).

Camera quality on the new iPhones is expected to be a big leap forward compared to the iPhone XS. The new phones are rumoured to have much larger lenses that will improve low light photography on the iPhones, possibly add portrait mode on video shooting, and also enhanced AR capabilities on the Pro models. The new models are not expected to have a ToF sensor which will probably be added in the 2020 iPhones. A major upgrade is expected on the TrueDepth camera quality as well.

The Pro name raises also the expectations for a higher refresh rate display which has been rumoured for 2020. The introduction of a 120Hz or even 90Hz ProMotion display on an iPhone would be a huge selling point, since it instantly upgrades the navigation and scrolling feel of your device. This is a very important and highly praised feature of the iPad Pro since its introduction back in 2017. The iPad Pro is using an LCD display, however, and it would be interesting to see this debuting at an OLED Apple display.

Apple’s September keynote may be held in Sep 10 (there are rumours about a Sep 20 date as well). We will then see which of the above mentioned rummers come true or not.
