Apple’s AR/VR Headset Could Arrive After WWDC23
According to Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple remains skeptical about creating “One More Thing” excitement across Apple fans globally and has pushed back the mass production of its anticipated AR/VR Headset by 1-2 months. Kuo expects mass production to occur around mid to late Q3 2023.
The following are the main reasons leading Apple to pivot and reconsider its options:
Current economic downturn in combination with the high selling price (rumored to cost more than $3,000).
Production issues leading to product compromises, including device weight.
Ecosystem readiness.
App availability.
This also creates skepticism about Apple introducing the headset during or later than WWDC23. The shipment forecast is very low, at 200,000 to 300,000 units within 2023.
On the other hand, Mark Gurman through his Power-on newsletter seems to believe that Apple is still aiming to showcase its mixed reality headset during WWDC23. Alongside the headset, Apple will introduce the operating system of the headset and a software development kit for developers who should be able to create apps for the new device.
We are entering an interesting period and we will probable learn more details about the mixed reality headset as we approach WWDC23. Click here if you want to learn what to expect from this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference next June.
