Apple introduces new Pride Edition Sport Band, Watch Face, and iOS Wallpaper
Apple has announced the release of a new Pride Edition Sport Band, along with a matching watch face and iOS wallpaper. This latest move by the tech giant aims to support and raise awareness for LGBTQ+ advocacy organizations that are working to bring about positive change, including Equality Federation Institute, GLSEN, Encircle, and many others.
The design of the new Sport Band showcases the original pride flag rainbow colors, as well as five others that symbolize Black and Latin communities, those living with HIV/AIDS, and transgender and nonbinary individuals. The rainbow of geometric shapes on a white base are compression-molded into the final band, creating unique variations in their layout that reflect the individuality of all members of the LGBTQ+ community.
The new Pride Celebration watch face and iOS wallpaper also honor the strength and mutual support of the LGBTQ+ community, with colorful shapes appearing to circulate into the watch display from the band and responding to user movement and taps. The wallpaper dynamically moves when the user unlocks their iPhone, providing a vibrant interpretation of this year’s Pride design.
Availability
The Pride Edition Sport Band will be available to order on apple.com and in the Apple Store App on May 23, and will be available at Apple Store locations beginning May 24 for $49 (US). It is compatible with Apple Watch Series 3 and later, and comes in 41mm and 45mm sizes.
The new Pride Celebration watch face and iPhone wallpaper will be available next week and require watchOS 9.5 and iOS 16.5. Beta users will be able to access these later when iOS 16.5 and watchOS 9.5 become available.
