Apple Released iOS 16.1.2 For All With Bug Fixing & Optimizations
General Information
Apple released iOS 16.1.2 before proceeding with the major release of iOS 16.2 which is expected to be available for all in December. Following the release of iOS 16.1.1 on November 9, another minor update of iOS 16.1 is available for all iOS 16 compatible devices.
What’s New
The new version is improving connectivity with wireless carriers. This means that if you had been experiencing cellular connectivity issues before with 4G or 5G, these problems should be fixed after installing this iOS version. However, the firmware of the modem remains unchanged compared to the modem firmware version installed with iOS 16.1.1.
Apple also proceeded with Crash Detection optimizations for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max devices. Apples has not released any notes about the specifics of this update. However, Crash detection is a new feature that became available last September. This means that Apple used the data gathered in the previous months to optimise the performance and overall operations of Crash Detection.
As indicated by the iOS 16.1.2 release notes, Apple is also bringing new security updates with this iOS version. The Security Update page on apple.com has not yet been updated with the issues fixed with iOS 16.1.2. However, it’s mentioned that it will be updated soon which means that we will soon learn about what has been addressed with this version.
Future iOS 16 Updates
The next major iOS update is expected to be iOS 16.2 which is anticipated to be released in December for iPhone users. Currently iOS 16.2 is available for beta testers and brings important new updates such as a new always-on display mode, a new iOS application, 5G in India, new Lock Screen widgets and more.
