September 14, 2021: Apple “California Streaming” Event is over. Apple fans visit Apple.Com in order to check all the latest details regarding the specs, pricing and availability of the new iPhones, iPads and the Apple Watch Series 7. Apple took most by surprise since no availability plans nor a full specifications list were revealed contrary to what was expected before the event.
Apple Watch Series 7 Pre Order & Release Date
October 4, 2021: Apple officially announces the details for the pre order and availability dates of the Apple Watch Series 7. The new Apple Watch pre orders start on October 8, 2021. Apple Watch Series 7 release date in USA and more than 50 markets has been announced for one week later, Friday, October 15. These markets include (apart from the US) Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico, Russia, South Korea, the UAE, the UK and more than 50 other countries.
Apple Watch Series 7 Colors & Versions
The brand new Apple Watch models will be available in 5 different colors with aluminium case: Midnight (replacing Space Grey), Starlight (replacing silver), Blue, Green and Product (RED). This is the first time that we see a green case in any Apple Watch. Furthermore, the blue color of the Apple Watch Series 7 is different from the blue that was released last year in the Apple Watch Series 6, something that we saw happening with the blue on the iPhone 13 Pro (vs 12 Pro) as well.
Stainless steel models will also be available in three variants: silver, graphite, and gold stainless steel. Apple Watch Edition models make their return in two finishes, titanium and space black titanium.
Apple maintains its big collaboration with the French giant Hermès and Nike which means that the Apple Watch Series 7 Nike and Hermès editions will also be available alongside new co-branded watch bands.
Apple Watch Series 7 Sizes
This is the second time since the original Apple Watch inception that Apple will enlarge the case and display size of the new Apple Watch. The familiar sizes of 40mm and 44mm belong to the past. Apple has replaced these versions with the brand new 41mm and 45mm Apple Watch models respectively. The display is now offering 20% more screen area and 40% thinner bezels at 1.7 mm in both sizes. The case has softer more rounded corners which expect to make the new Apple Watch more comfortable on your arm.
Apple officially confirmed that the Apple Watch Series 7 watch bands are backwards compatible with previous Apple Watch models.
Apple Watch Series 7 vs 6
Apple Watch Series 7 cases are now larger by 1mm compared to the models they replace. Apart from the case size increase, Apple has also redesigned the display which is now 20% larger than last year. The bezels are 40% smaller than Series 6 which allow almost 50% more text in the screen, eventually improving significantly the reading experience on the new Apple Watch. Moreover, Apple made the Always On display 70% brighter than S5 and S6.
Apple also claims that the 2021 Apple Watch models are less prone to cracks and with a glass that’s almost 50% thicker than Series 6. It will be interesting to check whether the thicker glass might affect the display quality.
Apple also provides a new USB-C fast charging cable which is capable to charge the Apple Watch Series 7 33% faster than Series 6 with a 20W USB-C fast charger (not included). Do not expect any changes in battery life though, since the same 18-hour battery life is still expected from Series 7.
The overall design is almost identical as the previous models with slightly softer and more rounded corners.
Apple Watch Series 7 Price
Apple officially announced that the starting price of the 41mm aluminium version (GPS) is $399 which is on par with the pricing of the Apple Watch Series 6 40mm model. Apple Watch Series 7 pricing hasn’t been officially disclosed yet, although it is expected that it will remain the same as last year, maintaining the starting price of the larger model at $429.
