Apple Released iOS 16.2 For All - What's New For You

Apple has finally released iOS 16.2 for all compatible devices. Apple Music Sing and Advanced security features for iMessage, Apple ID and iCloud data files are now available. Apple Music Sing, is Apple’s own karaoke version through Apple Music on the iPhone, iPad and the latest Apple TV 4K. You can view more details about Apple Music Sing by clicking here.

Several important new features, apps and optimizations are coming with iOS 16.2 which is one of the most important updates of iOS 16.Apart from the addition of new features, there is also one noticeable upgrade compared to previous iOS 16 versions. This is no other than battery life. Battery life during the iOS 16.2 beta lifecycle has been significantly improved on the tested device (iPhone 14 Pro Max).

iOS 16.2 Features

Apple Music Sing is Apple’s karaoke-like feature for the Apple Music. This new feature can help you set up a karaoke party with your friends simply by accessing Apple Music. How does this happen? Apple has introduced a new vocal volume slider which allows Apple Music users to turn up or down the volume of a song’s vocals. In combination with live-lyrics, which were already available in Apple Music, and duet view, karaoke parties are easier to set up than ever before on your iPhone.

Apple has announced three new Advanced Security Features, available with iOS 16.2 firstly in the US and next year everywhere else. Advanced Data Protection for iCloud now uses end-to-end encryption for a wide set of iCloud data, such as our iCloud backups, Photos, Wallet Passes, Voice Memos, Notes and more. iMessage Contact Key Verification allows users to verify a person prior to communicating together. In this way, unwanted communications can be avoided. Moreover, with “Security Keys for Apple ID, users have the choice to require a physical security key to sign in to their Apple ID account.” according to Apple.

New Always On Display (AOD) settings on the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Apple has been offering an alternative appearance for the iPhone 14 Pro AOD which resembles the implementation that we saw in the past with Windows Mobile phones and more recently with Android devices of course. More specifically, Apple is now allowing users to set an all black AOD. This has been a highly anticipated feature for many iOS users who were disappointed with Apple’s pre-iOS 16.2 implementation. You can read more about the new Always On display here.

Apple is also changing the way Airdrop works when users want to keep AirDrop activated with everyone. Following the recent implementation in China, AirDrop can now be turned off completely, stay activated for contacts only or stay enabled for all just for 10 minutes. If you choose to open AirDrop with everyone, keep in mind that AirDrop will automatically be changed to “Contacts Only” after 10 minutes.
