Apple Event: What to Expect from the "Scary Fast" Event, How-To Watch and Free Wallpapers
Introduction
Apple caught many by surprise last week when it announced an impromptu Apple Event scheduled for today, October 30. Aptly named "Scary Fast," this event is widely anticipated to be dedicated exclusively to the launch of new Mac products. In line with the prevailing online trend, the event will be held virtually, with no physical attendees. Notably, this marks a departure from Apple's typical event schedule, as it falls outside the usual timeframe.
The event is scheduled for 8 PM New York time, which is rumored to be one of the locations where Apple could host a small watch-party to view the online event together with some Apple executives. Given this unconventional timing, it wouldn't be astonishing to see Apple engaging with professionals from the gaming industry residing in different time zones.
What’s Expected
According to a recent report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, here's a glimpse of what we can expect from today's Apple event:
Apple is poised to unveil its latest family of Apple Silicon, the M3 series. Anticipated members include the fundamental M3 chip, along with the M3 Pro and M3 Max variants. These chips are expected to be built on TSMC's 3nm node, promising a potent blend of enhanced performance and energy efficiency. Particularly noteworthy are the rumored GPU improvements in these new chips, marking a significant leap forward compared to the previous generation of Apple Silicon. This announcement holds the potential to further enhance Apple's ambition to be make the Mac a noteworthy gaming competitor.
Apple is set to unveil a new iMac with upgraded and faster silicon under the hood, likely featuring the M3 chip. Surprisingly, the iMac remains the only Mac still powered by the M1 chip and has yet to transition to a chip from the M2 series. The same M chip is also rumored to make its way into the base MacBook Air and the 13-inch MacBook Pro. However, it's probable that these laptops will see their release at a later date, not during today's event. even if we shouldn't be expecting any noticeable design changes, Mark Gurman reports that Apple could change the design of the iMac’s stand.
Additionally, we can anticipate the launch of new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models equipped with brand-new M3 Pro and M3 Max chips. Despite both MacBook Pros receiving updates in 2023, it's still highly likely that Apple will introduce their successors today. One of the reasons for this expectation is the postponement of the M2 Pro and M2 Max chip release, originally rumored for late 2022 but rescheduled for January of this year. These successors seem to adhere to Apple's initial product roadmap, designed a couple of years ago.
Furthermore, Apple is gearing up to introduce the next iterations of the Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad, and Magic Keyboard. Notably, these new accessories will feature USB ports in lieu of lightning connectors, a transition that has been anticipated for several months, following the trend also seen in the iPhone 15 series. While photos of the USB cables were leaked a few months ago, some reports mistakenly believed they were associated with the iPhone 15 series. The colored versions of these accessories are expected to accompany the new iMac models, while the standard white ones will also be available separately from Apple.
