Apple Launches Self Service Repair Store In The United States
Apple has officially launched its online Self Service Repair Store in the United States which provides genuine Apple parts, tools and repair manuals. The online store is currently available only for the US, but Apple has promised to expand its online footprint across several different countries within 2022. Europe is coming next according to Apple’s official press release.
Apple intends to offer this service for all Apple devices. However, iPhones are the only supported products at the moment. In fact, you can only purchase parts and tools for the iPhones which have been released within 2021 and 2022. These are the iPhone 12 and 13 series, together with the 2022 iPhone SE.
In case you have an older device that needs to be repaired, you still have to go to an official Apple Service Center or Apple Store in order to get your device fixed even for routine repairs such as battery replacement.
Apple is also offering detailed repair manuals for all supported devices. You can check the resources section below to view the relevant mini site from Apple.
Apple clarifies that the parts offered through the Self Service Repair Store are the same ones (at the same price as well) offered through the official repair providers. Moreover, Apple is also offering credit when certain types of replaced parts are returned to Apple for recycling.
Furthermore, Apple is not only offering customers all tools provided to Apple Repair Centers, but also offers rental tools at $49 for customers who simply need to proceed to individual repairs and do not seek to purchase and keep any Apple tools.
Customers that seek to repair their devices on their own should be careful though. That is because Apple will no longer offer free-of-charge warranty repairs to a device that was damaged during the self repair process.
