New Google Pixel Fold Renders Reveal The Alleged Design Of Google's First Foldable Device
Update: Article updated with additional info shared by Ross Young
Google is planning to release its first foldable smartphone soon according to Jon Prosser. Prosser states that he has received information which reveal the name, the design, the release date, the colors and even the price of the upcoming Google Pixel Fold. That is expected to be the marketing name of Google’s first foldable phone according to Frontpagetech.com.
The device is expected to be released in two colors, white (or “Chalk”) and black (or “Obsidian”). The design looks like a combination of the Galaxy Fold 3 and the Google Pixel 7 series. The foldable design and hinge resemble Samsung’s largest foldable phone but the external camera is an evolution to the rear camera design of the Pixel 7 Pro.
The device is expected to be heavy and made out of premium materials. This means that we should probably expect a combination of glass and aluminum body but also a premium price. According to Jon Prosser the Google Pixel Fold is expected to be released at $1,799. The release date is currently set at May 2023. Of course as we move closer to that date more information will come up to surface including more details about hardware and camera specs. Currently, Prosser revealed that Google Pixel Fold will have one selfie camera in the external display and an additional one in the large internal display. Google has also created prototypes with no selfie camera inside but have probably been ditched.
This means that if we follow the rumours and leaks, Apple will be one of the few, if not the only top tier smartphone manufacturer, without a foldable device in its lineup.
According to Ross Young, a supply chain display analyst with a great track record, the Foldable display of the device will be 7.57-inches while the cover display 5.78-inches. Both displays will be made by Samsung Display.
