Apple Releases Firmware 7E93 for AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4, 7E99 for AirPods Max with USB-C
Apple has released new firmware updates for several AirPods models, including AirPods Pro (2nd generation), AirPods (4th generation), and the AirPods Max with USB-C. The updates are being delivered wirelessly to all eligible devices starting today.
Firmware Version Breakdown
AirPods Pro (2nd generation): Updated from firmware version 7B21 to 7E93
AirPods (4th generation) and AirPods 4 with ANC: Updated from firmware version 7B20 to 7E93
AirPods Max with USB-C: Updated from firmware version 7A291 to 7E99
How to Upgrade
To update your AirPods, follow these steps as outlined by Apple:
Update your AirPods or AirPods Pro firmware
Make sure that your iPhone, iPad, or Mac is updated to the latest version of iOS, iPadOS, or macOS, and that Bluetooth is on.
Make sure that your AirPods are connected via Bluetooth to your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
Connect your iPhone, iPad, or Mac to Wi-Fi.
Connect your charging case to power.
Put your AirPods in their charging case and close the lid. Keep the lid of the charging case closed, and keep your AirPods in Bluetooth range of your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
Wait at least 30 minutes for the firmware to update.
Open the lid of the charging case to reconnect your AirPods to your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
Check the firmware version again.
Update your AirPods Max firmware
Make sure that your iPhone, iPad, or Mac is updated to the latest version of iOS, iPadOS, or macOS, and that Bluetooth is on. To update your AirPods Max (USB-C), you need iOS or iPadOS 18.4 or later, or macOS Sequoia 15.4 or later.
Make sure that your AirPods Max are connected via Bluetooth to your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
Connect your iPhone, iPad, or Mac to Wi-Fi.
Plug the charging cable into the bottom-right earphone, then plug the other end of the cable into a USB charger or port.
Keep your AirPods Max in Bluetooth range of your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, and wait at least 30 minutes for the firmware to update.
Reconnect your AirPods Max to your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
Check the firmware version again.
How to Check Firmware Version
To verify which firmware version is currently installed:
On iPhone or iPad:
Go to Settings > Bluetooth
Tap the ⓘ next to your AirPods when connected
Scroll to find the Firmware Version
On Mac:
Go to System Settings > Bluetooth
Click the “i” icon next to the connected AirPods

Apple has provided official release notes for firmware 7E99, which introduces significant new capabilities for AirPods Max with USB-C. When paired with devices running iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, or macOS Sequoia 15.4 or later, the update enables:

No release notes have been released for firmware 7E93. All AirPods updates though typically include internal optimizations, performance improvements, or security-related adjustments.
