Apple Releases iOS 16.4 Beta 4: What's new
Introduction
Apple has seeded the fourth beta of iOS 16.4 for all compatible iPhones with a developer account. Although it’s still too early to see what’s new in this beta, there are already some new changes such as new splash screens and a new UI for the coverage menu.
In general about iOS 16.4: While the most noticeable change is the addition of new emojis, there are also some significant updates that will impact our iOS experience in the future. For example, new features like web push notifications and beta enrollment updates are changing the way we interact with iOS.
New In This Beta
Apple introduced a new coverage UI in iOS 16.4 which allows users to view the AppleCare coverage for each of their devices. This provides information about warranty expiration date, support services and more. Apple changed the glyphs that were shown before each device with small photos of each device in the coverage menu. That’s a small but welcome change. We love when Apple pays attention to such small details.
We are also seeing new splash screens when opening certain Apple-made applications on iOS 16.4 for the first time.
The Home application now supports automatic software updates for Matter accessories. Developers need to take advantage of this option, but it's still significant that Apple provides this feature from iOS 16.4 onwards.
On the iPad we have some enhanced functionality for the Apple Pencil on iPadOS 16.4. Apple Pencil hover now provides Tilt and Azimuth support. This feature is available on the latest 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro with the M2 chip released in 2022.
Apple mentions Apple Music Classical right within Music (also available on previous iOS versions). Apple Music Classical information pops up straight when you open Music app. There is also a link which allows you to pre-order the application right on the App Store application. More information about the Apple Music Classical app is available here.
Apple has also updated the Clips application with bug fixes and stability improvements. This isn't new, but it was updated just 2 hours ago, so we wanted to highlight it in case you're using Apple's Clips app.
We will be updating our article with any other new features we find in iOS 16.4 Beta 4. You can check out all the other new features we expect to see in iOS 16.4 by clicking here.
