Unlocking iPhone 16: Leaked Designs and Latest Insights into the Final Design
Background Information
The upcoming iPhone 16 is anticipated to be one of Apple’s best selling products for the next season and usually the most popular. Rumors and leaks already swirl through the tech community, offering tantalizing glimpses into what the next iPhone version may hold. Join us as we embark on a journey through the realm of speculation, delving into the rumored design of the iPhone 16 based on leaked information and insider insights.
Macrumors was the first source that revealed three iPhone designs initially under testing by Apple. One of these three designs were allegedly the ones that would be chosen as the final iPhone 16 design with an iPhone 12-like version being the basic contender. This would simply look like the below mock up design that we created:
However, a new post by the leaker with the username 'Majin Bu', who has a mixed track record, has brought a new design to the surface. This design combines elements and design cues from both the iPhone X and the iPhone 11/12. It features a vertical camera design, but the camera module is no longer square; instead, it is vertical like the iPhone X, with the flash placed next to it. The camera glass, however, is not a unified black glass; it is a transparent camera module colored similarly to the iPhone finish, just like today’s iPhone 15. Twitter user ‘Unknownz21’ who leaked last year’s iPhone 15 series has also confirmed that indeed Apple is testing this design as well.
Macrumors has unveiled additional details about the upcoming iPhone 16 lineup, revealing a notable addition: a new camera capture button positioned on the side, where the current Side Button resides. In the US models, this area is presently occupied by the mmWave antenna. This innovative button is intended to provide users with quick access to the camera, offering the ability to lightly press for autofocus and further press to capture a photo or initiate video recording. Its placement and functionality are reminiscent of the controls found on DSLR or Mirrorless cameras, making it particularly appealing for users who prefer shooting horizontal videos.
According to reports from both Majin Bu and Macrumors, Apple is actively pursuing the integration of a capacitive button, which would eliminate the need for mechanical pressing. However, the feasibility of this technology remains uncertain, as technical challenges may dictate whether the button will ultimately be mechanical or capacitive. Notably, Apple's attempt to introduce capacitive buttons in last year's iPhone 15 Pro models was thwarted by technical limitations, leading to the abandonment of this feature.
Moreover, the entire iPhone 16 lineup is anticipated to feature an Action Button, poised to enhance user interaction. Should Apple successfully surmount the technical hurdles previously mentioned, this button could potentially be capacitive, offering a seamless and intuitive user experience across the range of devices.
iPhone 16 Mock Ups
Drawing inspiration from the latest schematics, we've crafted new iPhone 16 mock-ups that offer a glimpse into what the upcoming device might resemble. Among these concepts, we've envisioned two finishes already familiar to users today: Blue and Pink. Additionally, we've introduced a highly anticipated Product (RED) version, which boasts a striking appearance. We hold hope for the return of this iconic color variant, especially after Apple's recent omission of such colors in their latest iPhone lineup.
