iOS 17 Contact Posters: The Upgrade You Didn't Know You Needed

iOS & Customization

Traditionally, iOS has been criticized for its stable yet somewhat monotonous nature. However, with the introduction of iOS 14, Apple showed its commitment to breaking this stereotype. The latest iOS versions aim to enhance user satisfaction by introducing features that add a more personalized touch to the iPhone's operating system.

Contact Posters

iOS 17, Apple's newest release, offers an additional feature that takes personalization to the next level. Personalized Contact Posters are the highlight of iOS 17, allowing users to customize the appearance of incoming calls by adding a photo or Memoji as the poster for a contact. These posters can be highly customized, similar to setting a photo as a wallpaper on the Lock Screen. Apple also offers the option to use a Memoji Sticker as a contact poster. When we say "Contact Poster," we're referring to the customized caller screen that appears when a person calls us or when we call them.

iOS 17 New Contact Poster Feature

In addition, iOS 17 can detect depth information in a photo, providing additional options such as placing the name behind the photo and offering different Contact Poster Styles. These styles can either display the selected photo (Natural Style) or hide the background with styles like Gradient Backdrop, Seamless Background, Seamless Background Mono, Overprint, Studio, Black-and-White, Color Backdrop, Duotone, and Color Wash. Each style comes with its own customization options.

All Contact Poster Customization Options

Users can also edit the font that displays the contact's full name or nickname (if added in the contact fields). The font can be customized in terms of font family, color, and weight. Apple offers even more customization options when the language is set to Japanese, as the name can be shown vertically in the Contact Poster, which looks really cool.

Personal Contact Poster and NameDrop

Furthermore, these customization options are available for your own personal contact card. In addition to customizing your contact details, you can create your own personal Contact Poster. You can even share it with another nearby iPhone using NameDrop, a feature that allows you to share your digital business card by placing your iPhone near another device. To edit your personal poster, simply open the Contacts app and tap on "My Card" at the top of your contact list.

Apple also allows users to create multiple Contact Posters for a contact (or your own card), similar to creating multiple wallpapers for your device. You can then select which poster will be active whenever you want. For example, you could create two different Contact Posters for your own contact details, one personalized for sharing with friends and another one personalized for business contacts.

Impressions

Apple has introduced an unexpected new feature that nobody really asked for or even conceptualized. Before its release, few would have considered it useful or welcomed it. However, Apple's implementation is so beautiful that it soon becomes an obsession to have personalized contact posters for every caller.
