Safari Is The World's 2nd Most Used Desktop Browser Again

In the ever-evolving world of web browsers, the latest rankings show that Safari, Apple's default browser, has regained its second place position in the list of most popular desktop web browsers. According to Statcounter, a web analytics firm that tracks browser usage based on data collected from various websites, Safari now holds 11.87% of the market share, overtaking Microsoft Edge which is now in third place with 11%.

Google Chrome remains the most-used desktop web browser in the world with a commanding 66.13% market share. However, Safari's growth by over 2% in comparison to last year's data indicates a strong resurgence. In contrast, Microsoft Edge's growth rate was only 1%. Firefox and Opera maintained their fourth and fifth positions respectively, with a market share of 5.65% and 3.09% respectively.

Despite the competitive landscape, Google Chrome's dominance in the market remains steadfast, showing little impact from its competitors. The fact that Chrome's market share remained almost unchanged from the previous year demonstrates its strong hold in the market.

Safari, on the other hand, has been gaining momentum in recent years, thanks to Apple's increased focus on the browser's development and the sales increase in Mac computers in 2022. The browser is known for its sleek design and features such as integration with Apple's ecosystem and advanced privacy settings. Safari's integration with Apple's ecosystem allows seamless browsing across multiple Apple devices. The browser also has advanced features such as Intelligent Tracking Prevention, which blocks third-party trackers from following users across the web. Apple also introduced Shared Tab Groups, Passkeys and Web push notifications in its latest macOS release, macOS Ventura.

Edge however, is expected to draw attention since Microsoft proceeded with the integration of ChatGPT and Dal-E quite recently.

Presented in the following chart is the most recent breakdown of web browser market share as reported by Statcounter.
